This is the entrance to our school NTI which stands for Nordic Technical Institute. There I work at the business and administrations programme. The school is located just a one minute walk from one of Gothenburgs biggest shoppingcenters which makes it ideal when you want to give the students field-exams in the different stores.

  1. What a lovely building and I must have walked past it many times. It certainly is located close to the shops and this is good for your students.

  2. It definitly is. Without the location we wouldn´t been able to arrange the programme the way we do today.

  3. I do understand this. In Australia where the distances between towns in the country is very large sometimes the students have to travel away to do their workplacement and this sometimes causes a lot of problems for them. Often they have to go away for a month and stay in a larger centre where they do their work experience. In our schools our students often go to a workplace for one day a week. How do you arrange your workplacements?

  4. For the moment we have them out five weeks after the christmas break each year.
But the period is always under constant evaluation. We listen a lot to the businesses to fit their needs.
When the students are out we go out and visit them to make sure they aren´t being used in the wrong way and to see how they are developing their skills.

  5. Dennis, I think you have brought up a good point about supervising students in their workplacements. It is a big job to get all our students into workplaces. In our big schools we have a number of staff who do this job and then teacher goes out an visits the students. Sometimes the teacher has to remind the employer about what their responsibilities are. It is important for the student that they have the chance to learn in their workplacement and the teacher has a big job in helping employers to udnerstand this. Do you have a list of skills that the students need to display when they are on workplacement?
