Since we have the oppertunity with having a classroom in a former shop in the heart of Gothenburg we also use the classroom as a pop-up store and give the students a chance to train their skills in sales and building display windows.

  1. Oh now I know what pop up stores are. Yes you are very fortunate to have these facilities. Do the students enjoy these activities? In Australia some trainees work in businesses and study part time. They get the opportunity to do real work for four days per week. They go to College perhaps one day per week where they learn the theory.

  2. The students do enjoy it, but they are usually really nervous before they do it. But afterwards they realize that it wasn´t so dangerous as they thought.

Sometimes we invite different companies to use the store for a weekend or a day. But in the third year for the students they will have their own companies for a year and then they will get the chance to sell their products and services..

When you say real work, is it like beeing a trainee at a company?

  3. I was wondering what kind of companies the students have in their third year? Is this the students examination work?

  4. It is through an organisation called Junior Achievement or "Ung Företagsamhet" in Swedish.
So it pretty much works as a real company but the students have a saftey-net so they can´t go bankrupt and loose money. But they can make money and learn a lot on the way.
We do it as part of the students examination work but also work woth the company in a lot of the other courses.

  6. this is a wonderful way to learn for your students and I agree with the idea that they have a 'safety net. It is important that our students feel both safe and challenged by their learning. It is interesting that they cant loose money but they can make money.
I dont quite understand how this works. Can you explain a little more to me as I would like to talk to some teachers about this activity?
When i said 'real work' I meant that the experiences they are having are authentic and real. This means that they can apply the theory they have learnt in a real situation as your students do. Yes we have trainees and there are many of them in the retail area. they work in a shop or company and they are supervised in theire learning in the workplace.
